Madeira island lies in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, 580 kilometres west from the coast of Africa on the same latitude as Casa Blanca and some 860 kilometres south east from Lisbon. The subtropical location and 1 and 1/2 hour flight from the Portuguese capital makes Madeira a great travel choice for short breaks and holidays.

Madeira is the main island of the Madeira Archipelago, an Autonomous Region of Portugal and therefore part of the European Union. Funchal is its capital city.
